Concrete Finishes Based on Strength & Durability
Concrete floors require different degrees of durability and strength depending on the environment, use and properties desired. For example, heavy-use industrial spaces require a different finish than a residential garage floor to ensure it lasts the test of time and provides the needed protection. At the Schilling Group, we offer a solution for every type of home, business or facility. Here are some concrete finishes based on strength and durability.
Strength & Durability of Concrete Finishes for Different Spaces
- MMA (Methyl methacrylate). These high-performance, fast-curing systems are ideal for heavy commercial use. They are extremely durable, chemical resistant, thermal-shock resistant, low maintenance and attractive. They are especially good for low-temperature facilities and those requiring rapid installation.
- Polycrete. These cementitious urethane coatings are ideal for both commercial and residential applications. This concrete overlay system makes concrete floors in poor condition look brand new. They are also extremely durable and versatile. They are especially popular in restaurants and commercial kitchens due to their thermal resistance.
- Polyaspartic. Polyaspartic systems fully saturated with binders, such as quartz or polyflakes, is one of the toughest and most durable finishes you can add to concrete floors. This makes these concrete coatings ideal for heavy-use industrial spaces, such as repair facilities for large machinery and trucks. They provide maximum protection from spills, impacts and heavy machinery. They are also UV resistant.
- Concrete Polishing. Polished concrete is popular for commercial and residential applications. They are attractive, low maintenance and durable. However, while polished concrete floors are much harder and denser than unpolished concrete, they are still somewhat porous, so liquids can seep in. They are great in residential garages and basements, as well as warehouses with light traffic and retail floors.
